Mojo Splits Dual Opener

The Lady Panthers split a dual match with Snyder and Monahans at the PHS Fieldhouse on Tuesday to begin the 2020 season. Permian swept Snyder in three sets (25-18, 25-21, 25-22), but came up short against Monahans (16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 23-25).

Mojo got off to solid start in the opener with the Lady Tigers.  Bethani Fierro and Jade Workman led Permian with eight kills, while Sarah Orona and Nyxalee Munoz each recorded six.  Denali Cardenas led in assists with 18.  Workman (7) and Alizay Rivera (7) combined for another 14 assists.

Natalia Abila finished with 15 digs in the winning effort.  Munoz had four, with Iliana Garcia and Anyssa Cruz added three each. Munoz was also credited with a pair of aces.

After falling two sets behind the Lady Loboes, Permian started picking up momentum and came up a shot short of forcing a fifth set in the loss.  Workman logged nine kills and Munoz followed with seven.  Cardenas again led in assists, this time around with nine.

Digs were more balanced in the effort with Monahans.  Abila and Cruz led the Lady Panthers with 11 each, and Garcia finished with eight.  Cardenas (2) and Munoz (2) dished out four aces.  Fierro recorded two blocks versus Snyder and one against Monahans.

The Lady Panthers will have another non-district outing on Friday against Lubbock High.  The district home opener is slated for September 29 against Abilene High.
