Monahans Tournament Champions

Monahans, TX – After rolling through pool play undefeated, Permian added three more wins in the Gold Bracket to claim the Championship title of the 50th annual Monahans Volleyball Tournament this weekend.

The Lady Panthers collected three wins in Pool E, beating Seminole (25-16, 25-10), Big Spring (25-7, 25-10), and El Dorado (25-23, 25-21) on Friday.  Mojo would ride that momentum into the Gold Bracket of the tournament on Saturday.  Permian dealt Odessa High a 2-1 loss (26-24, 19-25, 25-19) to start bracket play.  The Lady Panthers next disposed of hosts Monahans in two sets (25-16, 25-23) to greenlight a trip to the championship game.

The Lady Black Cats met Denver City for what would turn out as two battles of might.  Permian edged out a 25-23 advantage over the Lady Fillies in the first set.  The second round would result in a back-and-forth test of perseverance, with Mojo sustaining a 30-29 victory to claim the tournament title.

Keeley Granado, Mylah Arzaga, and Bridgit Smithee were named All-Tournament recipients.  Smithee led in kills, while Arzaga topped the group in digs and assists.  Permian will return to action on Tuesday for a dual with Lubbock High and Pecos.  A trip to the metroplex and the Granbury Tournament is slated for next weekend.
