Permian Wins Cat Fight Over Bobcats
Odessa, TX – Permian hosted San Angelo Central in a District 2-6A clash at the PHS Fieldhouse on Friday. The Lady Panthers never trailed in the cat fight and swept the Lady Bobcats (26-24, 25-17, 25-22) in three sets.
In the first meeting down in San Angelo, it was the Bobcats that came out on top of a three-set win. This time, it was the Lady Panthers claiming all three sets to keep their playoff hopes alive. The first set remained close throughout a back-and-forth affair. Permian gained a 13-6 advantage before Central pulled to within three at 16-13. Mojo extended its lead to 24-18, but the visitors went on a 6-point run late to even the set at 24-24. The Lady Black Cats secured the next two points to win the first set 26-24.
The Lady Panthers maintained complete control in the second set. They built on to a 7-3 beginning to owning a 18-9 edge. San Angelo narrowed the deficit with a three-point run but Permian answered with four of their own for a 22-12 lead. The Bobcats fought back but could never gain any traction. The Lady Black Cats went on to take a 25-17 second set victory.
The third set mirrored the first one, with several short runs. Again, Permian never trailed in the contest. It got as close as 20-19, but Mojo went on a four-point run and then secured the final point for a 25-22 win to end the contest. Keeley Granado led in kills with 10. Kailei Aguilar and Jackie Salinas shared in assists with 16 and 14 respectively. Garrin Coy finished with 10 digs, followed closely by Aguilar with eight.
The Lady Panthers will travel to Wolfforth on Tuesday to play the Frenship Tigers in another District 2-6A cat fight with a playoff spot on the line.
