Mojo Claims Home Opening Win

Odessa, TX – In an entertaining season Home Opener at the Permian Fieldhouse, the Lady Panthers came away with the 3-2 win over Andrews (21-25, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 15-6).

After working through a sluggish first set, Permian went to work and picked up set victories in the second and third stanzas.  The Lady Panthers and Mustangs put on a show in the fourth set.  Battling in a back-and-forth affair, Andrews claimed a slim 25-23 decision to force the tiebreaker.  In the fifth and deciding set, Mojo rolled past the visitors in dominating fashion.

Mikaylynn Marrero-Rodriguez and Ada Anderson led the Permian assault with 16 and 13 kills respectively.  Anderson also recorded a pair of blocks.  Jackie Salinas (24) and Kailei Aguilar (22) split the assists, while Garrin Coy dished out five aces during the contest.

Coy led Mojo with 17 digs and Salinas recorded 14.  Olivia Martinez contributed another nine digs.

The Lady Panthers will turn their focus to the first tournament of the season in Monahans this coming weekend.  Permian will begin tourney play on Friday in Pool D with El Paso Bel Air, El Paso Austin, and Pecos.
